How can I say this? It’s almost like when you get to that part in a movie when everything starts making sense while up to that point, all was a nebula. Kal gave priceless advice to our oldest daughter, who’s ready to launch off to college next year. This is a critical time in their age when they need to be confident and clear about the path they’re taking in their life. I wish I had had this advice when I started out. it would have saved me a couple of decades of trying to figure myself out. I can’t speak highly enough of Kal and College Careers Consulting. I started the process around 4 months ago with my daughter, who is a junior in high school. In the last four months, I have noticed a significant increase in her focus and preparedness towards her college research and degree interests. As a mother of two teenagers, I’m sure most moms can relate to the vast amount of work required in getting your child ready for college and degree interests – and the winding complicated path ahead of them! There also exists the dynamic of your child wanting their independence in this process which can create a challenge in having your teenager want to listen and embrace guidance from their parents. Kal’s assessment tools, professional input, and ability to help my daughter analyze what the different career options would truly look like has had GREAT impact! My daughter bravely reconsidered what she always thought she wanted. I’ve always had a passion for filming and photography and I was sure it would be my career. My high school career counseling confirmed that it was a good idea based on my interests. My parents thought it would be a good idea to meet with Kal before beginning the college app process. After meeting Kal, I learned so much about myself – how I learn, think, process, work, deal with people, and so much more. She seemed to know me better than I knew myself. While I have a passion for photography and film, she was able to help me discover that it is not one of my 10 ten career matches based on who I naturally am. Kal Otis has been a huge help for me in my search for future careers. I only spent a few hours with her and with that time she taught me so much about myself. I now feel so much clarity with my choices. She administered a few personality tests and from those concluded which career paths would bring me joy and contentment and which would not be satisfying. Because Kal Otis has had a lot of experience working with kids and young adults, she is very good at understanding your learning style and then explains things the best way you learn, so I never was confused when she was explaining things. I went into our meeting pretty sure that Social Work was the best fit for me but she encouraged me to look at all the possibilities and I ended up totally changing my mind! I met with Kal this summer after attending my first year of college. It was stressful not knowing exactly which field I wanted to go into or what my career path would be when I got out of college. I knew what I loved doing and what interested me but the idea of finding a career that I would love and stick with my whole life scared me. As a senior in high school most of my peers had already decided which college they were attending as well as which career path they were pursuing. It was discouraging to not be in the boat. The processing of deciding both college and career seemed overwhelming. The stress was impacting me. I finally decided on a career which sounded good, but in practice would not be something I would be truly happy doing. I was terrified by the idea of even going to college because I felt lost in what I should do. After Kal tested me, I found the perfect career field which supported all of my interests and needs, even the ones I didn’t realize I had! At the end of our time together we had nailed down my career path and potential colleges that would provide the best experience for my career. Before meeting with Kal, I was pursuing an engineering degree because I knew it would provide job stability, good pay and a promising career. Pretty solid reasoning. However, every day I would come to class I would feel this sense of dread, emptiness and unrest. In spite of these good reasons I came up with in my head for doing what I was doing, I didn't feel fulfilled and I just knew it wasn't my purpose. After meeting with Kal, everything changed. Through her in depth research and data analysis, consistent meetings and honest conversations, I realized I was on the completely wrong path for my life. She was able to show me how I'm wired: what kind of a learner I am, what type of work environment best suites me, my personality traits, and so much more. Most importantly, her love, care and genuine passion to see me live a fulfilling life has helped change my direction for my life towards what I'm meant to be doing, rather than what I think is right or what I've been told.
